My baby shower was a couple of weeks ago. Ever since then I've been busy with loads of laundry mainly consisting of little baby clothes and doing tons of organizing. Everything is almost ready for baby girl's arrival.I got around to putting up the Christmas tree this past weekend. The holidays seem to be flying by. To be honest, I just threw away our little pumpkins from Halloween.

Tuesday night we got our first real accumulation of snow. By the time morning came, it had mostly melted. I wonder what kind of winter will be in store for us this year. It will certainly be one that I'll always remember.

The past month I've been working on transforming the spare room into the baby's room. It was pretty overwhelming at first. Packing up a room full of things I've collected since high school and trying to decide what to keep out for sewing or any other projects I would want to do in the future. And then find a new home for them and the printer.

We bought a big metal shelf and added more storage to the garage and turned the 5'x5'9" closet in the laundry room into a space where I can put my sewing machine and other miscellaneous crafty items (along with the water heater and cat litter).Finally, once the room was emptied we painted and set up the closet. Last weekend Dan finished up the dresser and moved it in. Remember what it used to look like? It turned out perfect! My shower is next weekend. I'm looking forward to putting all of her stuff away and finishing the room.

30 weeks pregnant

30 weeks already! This is what I look like now (well, that photo was taken last week at 29 weeks, so I'm probably a smidge bigger now). Even though I'm having a tough time tying my shoes and getting comfortable at night trying to sleep is a pain, I love having a big pregnant belly. I can't get enough of that feeling of her moving around or what feels like dance parties to me. I also can't get enough grapes! I've been going through a bag a week!

Today is the 100th birthday of Disney illustrator Mary Blair. My favorite contribution Mary had to Disney is the attraction "It's a Small world". Shes was also behind the concept art for Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Song of the South and Cinderella. Above is a picture of her and Walt with a doll created after Mary that's included in the ride.

Google is honoring her today with a doodle based on her early animations.

I've been itching to get rid of our IKEA MALM dressers for awhile and invest in some nice solid pieces of furniture for the bedroom. A matching set from this Chicago based store The White Attic has been on my wishlist for a long time but we were hesitant to drop 1200 dollars or just waiting for the right time to justify the investment. Dan and I came up with this idea to find something similar to what they have at a yard sale or craigslist and refinish it ourselves. Easy right? It was a lot of work. Well, Dan actually did all of the manual labor and took care of the smelly jobs. I helped out near the end and painted the drawer fronts. We used a project from Young House Love as a guide to help since we're just beginners in the DIY area. I forgot to take a before picture. But here are some shots taken during the process and the finished product!

Look what I won on ebay Saturday night! I have been torn on getting something vintage like this or going with the modern stokke or boon. I saw a similar one in August but I didn't jump on it. I'm glad I waited, when I saw this I knew I had to have it. I can't wait to feed baby girl in this retro highchair.

This month along with the summer has flown by. We've been so busy since we found out there will be a baby here in January. After a week away from home our weekend was jam packed. We had to catch up on shows we missed (thank-you DVR), see the Lion King in 3D, go to the cider mill, of course, buy some new tennis shoes for Dan, aaannd try and finish up the dresser we're refinishing so we can start the babys.

Dan had some vacation time to use up so last Thursday we made the long trip to the Upper Peninsula to visit his grandparents and aunt and uncle. Dan's parents grew up in the UP and they lived there until he was five. It took us 4 hours to drive to the Mackinaw Bridge and then another 5 to get to White Pine.The grandparents took us to the Porcupine Mountains to see the Lake of Clouds and to this outrageous ski jump called Copper Peak. We road a chairlift up a hill, took a elevator half way up, then climbed some stairs the rest of the 18 stories. It was very windy, so we took some pictures and high tailed it back down. I got a little nervous being all the way up there swaying in the wind but it was a cool experience and I'm glad we did it. I can't even imagine skiing off of that ramp.

Another great weekend of summer sale hunting. I got a new/old basket for my bike! I'm going to have to wait until next spring to wear my new dress...my belly wont fit. I'm not sure what to do with the groovy paper table cloths but for 10 cents I couldn't pass them by.

I did really good thrifting this week! I found super adorable Bambi curtains for 3 dollars and a metal globe. I want to use them both in the baby's room. I love the globe, I don't have any metal ones and it's a good size to go on a shelf for the little miss. I think I am most excited about the curtains though. I saw them awhile back and decided against buying them because they were $5.99. When I went back the other day they were half off!!!One of my favorite parts in Bambi is when he asks the owl what's wrong with all the animals when it turns to springtime and he explains that they are "twitterpated".

I think it's kinda perfect how one of my favorite bands just happens to be be the most amazing little family. Mates of State is Kori, who plays the electric organ, and Jason, who plays the drums. They've been married since 2001 and had their first daughter in 2004 and another in 2008. The girls have full on traveled with them on tours since they were only weeks old. I love reading Kori's blog on Babble, Band on the Diaper Run, where she writes about raising two kids and being a rock star all at once. I'm digging their new album Mountaintops. This is the first single "Maracas".

Since we just found out we are expecting a girl, I know that from now on there will be lots of pink around the house! I love all different shades. Watermelon/salmon-y, like the cross pillow and pure pale pink are my favorites. The pink and yellow tulip cushion is so darn cute and perfect for a nursery. All of the cushions in the Pikku shop are great. They even have this amazing white daisy quilt that I would love to have.

I've been given the pleasure of puppy sitting a couple of days a week. Our old room mates got a new chihuahua and since she's so little she has to be fed every 2 hours until she gets her weight up or starts eating on her own. Her name is Chili. She is super playful and runs around the house chasing our cat Ralph. Sprinkles finds a high spot and just observes.

We ate crazy good food. The best salad I've ever had and Dan's french toast with toasted coconut on top from Eleven City Diner.We went to the aquarium and saw the jelly fish exhibit.Dan posing in front of theT-Rex at The Field Museum. My favorite part was the old taxidermied animals.We caught the fireworks on the 4th by all the museums and traveled to the top of the Willis Tower(formaly know as the Sears tower) to check out the sky deck.

The last two days here have been full of rain and power outages. But over the weekend I did manage to get some things potted and planted to start my own go-to salad garden. I go through spinach and tomatoes like crazy and I can't wait for the convenience of walking out my front door to get them, and the money I'll save at the super market.

There are a couple of things I've had my eye on now (even more things at Gap Kids cause I have small feet and can fit into a childs large) I have the perfect excuse to go pick them up and I get to make more room in my closet too!

This past weekend I headed up north to my parents house to do some hard core garage saleing with my mom and aunt, who have just now really started to jump on the thrift band wagon. Even though I didn't find what I set out for (an Eames lounge chair replica or a matching set of mid century modern dressers) I came away with some great stuff and for quite a bargain.The weather in Michigan has seemed to catch up with Spring. It was even nice enough for a fire and the trampoline with my cousins!

I picked up a couple of things from the thrift store earlier this week. a side table with metal legs for 7 bucks! And super cute Japanese containers for a dollar.I needed a little table to go next to the sofa. This fits perfect and goes well with the coffee table. Although, it might get moved into the spare room because it would be perfect to put the printer on...we'll see.These little plastic containers go great in my kitchen with all the primary colors. I can't wait to fill them up with some spices.

It's been one week since we moved our friends, Mike and Brittany into their house and all of our stuff out of storage and into the condo. This is what things looked like at the start.Here's our storage unit where our belongings lived while we were shacked up in the second bedroom.And this is how things look today. I know, it might not look that different to most but our garage is full of broken down boxes so thats proof I've made some progress, right?Little by little things are coming along. Our bedroom is only half put together until the closet organizer gets installed. The two bathrooms and kitchen are good to go and the spare room is on hold until everything in our closet is situated. Ahhh the glorys of moving. I'm exhausted and apparently Ralfie is pretty tired too...from getting into things. By this time next week I'm sure things will start looking more like a home rather than a dumping ground.

A lot has changed since October. We left our apartment on Honeycomb circle to live with some friends in their two room condo to save money and look for a house. Turns out they found a great deal on a house of their own in Ann arbor. Congratulations Shcepmans!! With some negotiating, we worked it out so we could stay in the condo for however long it takes us to find a place.

This is what our life has looked like for the past couple of months, packed into a small bedroom. I cannot wait to get all of our stuff out of storage!

Friday was a perfect day to stop in at The Treasure Mart in Ann Arbor. You wouldn't think from the outside that there are 3 floors, there's a lot to look at. I love siftng through all the old things to find just the right treasure.

I have a 100 dollar Amazon gift card I've been dying to use. Well today I decided, since I've been on a smoothie makin' craze, that I could use a new blender. I wanted something powerful that will crush ice with ease day after day. I also wanted something with a classic style more on the vintage side.

The Waring PBB2 Professional Bar Blender is the one I went with. The one metal switch and two settings is what sold me. Now I just have to choose which one to get: the retro green or the quite white. Oh decisions!

Smoothies are a yummy way to save some of those fruits in your fridge that are starting to go bad. I use a lot of berries in my cereal in the morning. When it comes to fruit I think berries are the first to go bad. When I notice some of them are on their way out I gather them up with some ice(sometimes i'll add a little orange juice or agave nectar) and mix them into a great fruity drink. And good for you. So perfect for summer evenings.That strawberry mango, and yogurt smoothie looks sooo good. I'd love to try some mango with mine. Martha Stewart has a ton of smoothie recipes. She even has a detox smoothie and a recipe for a cranberry cocktail protein smoothie.

This Saturday we made a spur of the moment trip to Chicago. We got there in the late evening and booked a hotel room. There was pizza restaraunt within walking distance where we ate and had drinks. It was a such a nice change. Dan and I have lived in the same area for quite some time now and sometimes all the regular spots around us get old. The next morning we ate a very good breakfast diner called The Panacake House. Afterwards we shopped a little and headed home.I had my very first celebrity sighting at the Panacake House sunday morning. Giuliana and Bill Rancic were let in through a side door and seated by us. I'm not sure if everyone knows who that is but Giuliana has been a host on E! for some time now and has her own show on the Style Channel about her relationship with her new husband Bill Rancic. I wanted to give them their privacy so I snapped a pic with my phone between people.

I'd have to say the worst thing about living in an apartment is our lack of a laundry room. It's especially a pain because we live on the third floor of our building and the machines are in the basement. Not only is it super creepy, hauling a couple of loads up and down three flights of stairs can be a bit much some days. What I would't give to have a clean and organized room to unload and fold in.

a new cloud

That's right! The last cloud formulation was added in 1951 for the cirrus intortus. This new cloud is called asperatus which means roughened or agitated waves. It seems these clouds are common in the plains states of the US, often during the morning or midday hours following convective thunderstorm activity. The Royal Meteorological Society is still gathering evidence of it's weather patterns, how they form, and whether they are distinct from other undulatus clouds. I hope to be lucky enough to see these in person someday. I love clouds. Asperatus clouds over Cedar Rapids in Iowa, US. Gavin Pretor-Pinney, founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society is working with the Royal Meteorological Society to get them officially designated as a new cloud type. images from here

Today was beautiful! The sun was out warming things up to a perfect 70 degrees. And all the trees are orange and red and the perfect color, chartreuse. I got my butt out of the house for awhile and went on a walk. I'm glad I did because the rest of the week calls for rain.

We went to the apple orchard this past weekend. It sure is the best part of fall. How can you not love all the caramel apples, warm cider and cinnamon sugar donuts. Yum!Sprinkles has been checking out that pumpkin non-stop (hence the blurry pic) since we brought it home! I can't wait to carve it up and bake some pumpkin seeds. Yum!
I put out the fake pumpkin and to make it more festive I made a spooky little bat garland out of security envelopes(since I had no black paper in the house!). Inspired by Martha Stewart.

My favorite Halloween special from when I was little was The Worst Witch. I remember watching it on the Disney Channel every year. This movie makes me thankful to be born a child of the 80's. A young Fairuza Balk and Tim Curry, who, I might add is extra awesome in his sexy pink cape.

It's that time again. This week is dedicated to swapping out all my summer clothes for my winter gear. It really bums me out to come across something that I didn't get a chance to wear to wear when it was warm, especially most of my dresses. On a brighter note I am happy to weed some old things out to give away and make room for new stuff.

It's probably the change in the weather, but I've been feeling like crap for the past two days. The one thing that always cheers me up...Sprinkles! She makes me smile everyday. I am so greatful to have her.She loves sleeping in her IKEA kitty tent. Unless there is some inadament object laying around that she can fit into or a closet full of clothes. What a cute little girl.

All we've been doing lately is going to weddings. I'm certainly not complaining, I love any excuse to get dressed up. Dans' best friend Mike is the one tying the knot this time. Since Dan is the best man and will be sporting a tux I feel I should step it up a notch. What I really want to wear is a vintage party dress, 50's style.
The top half are some of my favorites from esty. On the bottom row are some finds from ebay and are a little more in my price range.

Oooh. I just came across a new dreamy pendant from IKEA. It's featured in the new PS collection. I took a trip over to my local (and I mean local. check out this map showing the route from my house to IKEA) IKEA this weekend just to see if they had it in stock yet. no luck.

What I brought back from the cape
Sea shells. I love all the textures.

Two brand new/old tea towels. I picked these up from the salvation army that was on the main drag close to the house. You would not believe how many antique shops they had there. Sadly, we didn't have much time to stop in any. I would love to go back just for a shopping trip. I can only imagine the things I would find there.

vacation, all i ever wanted

I just wanted to stop in and give a small update on our vay-kay. Here are a couple of pictures of the Overbrook house which is where we are staying while here in Buzzards Bay MA.

Unfortunately, my digital camera died after the first day here. I neglected to bring any cords for it because it always stays charged. Oh well, you live you learn. Besides I still have my Minolta and lots of film. We'll be heading back to Michigan on thursday, see you then.
